Begin Your Training in Imago Relationship Therapy
Imago Foundations is an introduction to the principles and practice of Imago Relationship Therapy for therapists who want to work more effectively with couples and intimate relationships.
You will be introduced to a relationship-centred approach that helps partners move beyond blame, defensiveness, reactivity, and disconnection. Through teaching, demonstration, reflection, and skills practice, you will begin learning the Imago Dialogue Process: a structured way of helping partners listen, be heard, and develop greater empathy and understanding.
Imago Foundations is suitable whether you are simply curious about the Imago approach, want practical new tools for your work with couples, or are considering the full training pathway towards certification.
You can take this training on its own. If you decide to continue, Imago Foundations is the first step before moving into Imago Clinical Skills.

What You Will Learn
Imago Relationship Therapy is a relationship-centred approach that helps couples move beyond blame, defensiveness, reactivity, and disconnection. It gives partners a structured process for listening, being heard, and understanding each other more deeply.
During Imago Foundations, you will be introduced to the central concepts of Imago Relationship Therapy and begin learning the Imago Dialogue Process.
The Imago Dialogue is a structured method of communication that helps partners slow down, listen with greater care, and develop empathy for each other’s experiences. It supports emotional safety and connection, particularly when couples feel stuck in recurring conflict.
By the End of the Training, You Will Be Able To:
- Describe the core principles of Imago Relationship Therapy.
- Understand the basic structure and purpose of the Imago Dialogue Process.
- Begin using dialogue skills to support safety, connection, and understanding between partners.
- Recognize how early family experiences can influence adult relationship patterns.
- Understand how Imago views attraction, conflict, and growth in intimate relationships.
- Identify recurring patterns that can leave couples feeling disconnected or stuck.
- Begin integrating Imago-informed ideas and communication tools into your clinical work.
How You Will Learn
Imago Foundations combines teaching with practical experience. The training includes:
- Teaching on the principles and framework of Imago Relationship Therapy.
- Demonstrations of the Imago Dialogue Process.
- Guided skills practice.
- Reflection on personal and professional relationship experiences.
- Opportunities for discussion and questions.
- Practical tools that can be applied in clinical work with couples.
Because Imago is learned through both understanding and experience, participants are invited to engage personally as well as professionally throughout the training.
